The Interroll Research Center (IRC) presently covers an area of about 2,800 m2. All of the Interroll's products and applications are developed at the center in close cooperation with product management and the sales and marketing department. "We deliberately built a creative playground for our engineers and technicians in Baal to promote a spirit of innovation," says Ralf Garlichs. In the past two years alone, IRC's twenty engineers and technicians developed countless new products, including the modular MCP conveyor platform and the MSC 50 magnetic speed controller.
The Interroll Academy's mandate is to enhance technologies and markets by offering suitable training programs for employees and customers. The programs offered include seminars for new recruits, technical and business seminars, as well as product and application training for employees and customers with various levels of experience. "Technical innovation requires skilled users and application personnel. The Interroll Academy is a link between the market, technology and humans," says Garlichs.
Interroll's Centers of Excellence (CoEs) are just as dedicated to innovation as the company's researchers. The CoE for drum motors, which has also been headquartered in Baal since 2008, works systematically according to the standards of the Interroll Production System (IPS). The production process is based on the Japanese automotive industry's kaizen and kanban methods. IPS has enabled the company to improve the efficiency of its processes, significantly cut assembly times, boost quality for customers and maintain it at a steady high level. "Excellence means quality and efficiency," says Garlichs. Interroll's uncompromising strategy is to achieve zero defects.
